Amber, heard you mention Jing on N@N too....I'm loving its simplicity...great little tool...the SWF format is very handy. You can hide the tool and make it a menu item or a keyboard shortcut, so I can swap between Snapz Pro and Jing.
Will, programming link is great..Scratch caught my attention a few months back. Looks neat.
Anyway...Happy forthcoming 100th Command-N Team!! Enjoy the party :-)

Jeff,
Very nice segment, really liked that. So you had a clip on mic over there, i do video production and thats very expensive but also if ur filming two people like amber and will - a boom mic on a boom pole would be nicer. Also I want to ask you, are you a big fan of dvd cams? (those cams that uses dvd instead of minidv..) Last question, that camera that you showed in ur segment is the same type of camera i personally own but I've lost the batt charger when i was moving 7months ago - how much do u think it would cost to buy a replacement ...or do you think i should just save up and buy a new cam?
I havent shot anything personally since dec06 :(...

One addition I would make to Jeff's video bag is a neutral density filter if the cam accepts filters.
Protects the lens, easier to clean and replace-able if damaged.

Emmanuel,
With TV news production, clip-on lav mics are much better then a boom.
As for the DVD cameras - I hate them. Reviewed a Sony awhile back:

Hope that helps.

hey guys congrats on the upcoming 100 wish I could attend the party but have fun without me.
Wierd thing: I had a dream last night that I was buying a new house. Will was my general contractor, Brian was my loan officer, Amber was an expert on housing taxes, and Jeff was my real estate agent. It was the wierdest thing ever. LOL later

Favorite time-waster? My recent ones are WeeWar.com or Moola.com.

Okay, I'm an idiot and posted this in the wrong episode!

WRT the BBC iPlayer, they've already announced that a Mac version is in the works and will be released in October IIRC (don't you love argot).
Also worth noting that it's not Vista ready just yet either.

Hi All
So Bear was trying to steal the limelight again?
Best way to spend time wasting at work is to watch or listen to anything that has either Amber or Leo Laporte in. So its a good job I work from home because Leo does seem to be putting out tonnes of shows every week although Ambers not far behind.
Jeff. Two extra highly important piece of kit for the camera bag, First is to keep a plastic bag in your pocket to quickly stick the camera in when in suddenly starts to rain. Really important in the UK.
Second, A 12v charger or 12v to mains adapter to charge batteries up in the the car, great for those long weekends away camping in the middle of the Moors or anywhere in Wales.
How did the 100th party go last night? Couldn't find in on Ustream.TV.

Just an FYI - I think that the XVID version link is really going to the MPEG4 version, though I got the XVID on the RSS feed. You'd think that I'd just use the RSS feed all the time, but I'm a creature of habit.

oops, I too suffered an ID10T error; clicked wrong episode.
One thing I've noticed on a few shows is that Will's mic level seems to be much lower than Amber's. It doesn't make it impossible to hear Will, but the mismatch has been noticeable in several episodes.
In regards to the video pack, I'd recommend always having a UV filter on the lens. Although you can have UV problems out there, it is mainly for protection. They are a pretty cheap form of insurance against damage. I'd also disagree with Amber on using a Neutral Density filter, very few videos suffer from too much light but many suffer from too little. An UV filter is a much better way to protect the camera without impacting the lighting.
In regards to the tripod. I think that is a great suggestion, I see a lot of shaky video that can be very distracting. I would also suggest, as a compromise, a Monopod if you don't want to carry around a tripod. It is much easier to carry around and goes a long way towards providing some great stability.

LOL, funny you mentioned wasting time at work. I'm at work now and I was watching your show, love BTW. was listening to Tech @ night and thought, I really need to check that out. I've been a big fan ever since ole This Week in Tech, before it sadly enough went off air in my area, but it did force me to go find my fav. hosts where they are now. You here and on Twit. Patrick Norton on DL.Tv, which i was sad to here the last one was his last offical host epsode, and of course Leo on Twit. BTW, I should probably tell you what I do: I'm tech support for Staples, Radio Shack, Nebraska Funiture mart, and also part-time Acer computers. So what I do in my spare time at work is listen to tech pod cast and watch tech video's ;)
Love the show.
First time watcher,
Brad

Hey again,
I have a suggestion for yall: Talk about how Facebook is really owned by the CIA and how now they know who you are, who your friends are, how you are related to them, where you met them from? What schools you went to? who your family members are, what your hobbies are, stuff like that. I saw a short piece about this at a friend's house and I was really shocked. I'm starting to limit what stuff i say or do on facebook.

Arg! Just got back from 2 weeks in Haliburton and find out you went and had your party without me! Congratulations and I'm really sorry to have missed it - although I'm sure it couldn't outdo the snowstorm party for Call for Help a couple of years back!

Thanks for all the shows, this episode the xvid is saved as a mov file and not avi. Just wanted to let you know.
Are you thinking of adding a format that cell phones can use like 3gp?
Right now I download the xvid version avi and convert it again to play on my LG VX9900 cell phone.
Thanks for your work, enjoy it very much!!

Neither the h.264 nor the MPEG4 feed work on the iPhone. Forthcoming?
